Grumpkins

These were published in an article in the Fall 2018 issue of Prims

Pumpkin farmer Percy always has an unusual crop of peculiar pumpkins, but this year’s harvest was some rather grumpy, lumpy gourds. Maybe it was something in the water.
Like many of my projects this one started with the discovery of an ugly blue speckled wheelbarrow. The second I saw it I envisioning the wheelbarrow filled with pumpkins I decided that plain old pumpkins would not work, so I set out to create some unusual pumpkins.  After I fashioned the first pumpkin, I realized that he had an attitude and a rather ill-tempered one at that.  Rather than try an attitude adjustment, I decided to just go with it and formed the rest of the gourds into grumps.  These pumpkins really were a blast to make and as they progressed their crabbiness really came to life.

The Wheelbarrel is about 16" Long and 6" wide, pumpkins in the wheelbarrow are about the size of tennis balls, Pail is 3" tall, not including the handle and about 3 1/2" wide and deep... with the sign about 7" tall. The wheelbarrow and pins.. I call them grumpkins.  The two small pumpkins in the pail are about the size of walnuts.  The grumpkins were formed by sculpting paperclay over styrofoam and wire armatures, painted with artist acrylics and  double sealed with a matte finish varnish.  They are signed and dated and will come with a copy of Prims issue with their article.

While definately a Halloween decor item, would also work for Thanksgiving for a more daring decorator ( I would definitley do it ) would be a great conversation starter.

Thanks for looking, it you have any questions or would like further details, please do not hesitate to contact me.

They are listed for sale in my Etsy Shop Primville.
